Know the steps to download e-PAN Card.

PAN Card is an important document for Indians. Apart from filling income tax, PAN is also required for most of the financial investments/ transactions. PAN is also accepted as a proof of identity and date of birth at many places.

You may not be carrying PAN Card across all times for showing it. Some people have misplaced their PAN card & do not find time to apply for duplicate. For all such instances, e-PAN comes handy which is easy to download instantly.

You can download e-PAN by these simple steps :

  • Visit official NSDL PAN issuance website 

https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/requestAndDownloadEPAN.html

  • Click ‘Apply for PAN’ and provide details
  • Enter Captcha and press ‘Submit’
  • Preview page and verify data. If found everything in order press to ‘Generate OTP’ .
  • Now enter the OTP receive on your mobile number.
  • Then click on ‘Paid e-PAN Download Facility’.
  • Next you have to pay a fees of Rs. 9/- by selecting payment method.
  • Post successful payment, click on ‘Continue’
  • Now you can see icon to download the payment receipt and your e-PAN pdf soft copy.
  • Soft copy of your e-PAN is password protected. Enter your date of birth in DDMMYYYY format as the password to open the e-PAN file.

Now you are ready to use your PAN.

Know where all you will need PAN card.

PAN is required very much now for all financial transactions. Apart from financial transactions, PAN is now a day required at many other places.

Who all can get a PAN Card ?

  • Individuals
    • Resident Indians
    • Non-Resident Indians
    • Person of Indian Origin (POI)
    • Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs)
    • Minors in all the above category can also get PAN
  • Institutions
    • Partnership firms/ LLP/ Pvt Ltd/ Ltd/ PSUs
    • NGOs/ Societies/ Associations
    • Governments/ Government Bodies/ Body Corporates/ Independent Bodies

Where PAN can is a must ?

If you have started working in a company/ government job and receiving salary, you have to produce PAN to your employer. Employer will deduct TDS if you fall under taxable income. If you are working as a consultant or as a professional, then also you need to produce PAN for TDS deduction.

  • All types of banks (private/public/ co-operative/small finance) will ask you for PAN if you want to open bank account with them.
  • For investments in fixed deposits of Rs. 50,000/- above, you have to cite your PAN. This rule is also valid for other investments like mutual funds, bonds etc.
  • For opening mutual fund account and to open DMAT account for starting stock market investments, you need to have PAN card.
  • Banks will need your PAN cards if you need credit card. For any kind of loans also you need to possess PAN and produce it to banks for processing your application.  
  • If you have to buy or sell new or used car/vehicle which is valued more than Rs. 5,00,000/-, you will need to produce your PAN card.
  • In case you need to deposit cash of Rs. 50,000/- above in your bank account, you/depositor have to mention your PAN in the deposit slip.
  • For insurance investment/ premium payment of Rs. 50,000/- above, you must need PAN.
  • Want to buy jewellery, you need to produce your PAN if your purchase value worth Rs. 5,00,000/- above.
  • If you are buying or selling property you have to give your PAN copy at the time of registration.
  • When you rent your house/property, you have to give your PAN to your tenant and also for registration of leave and license agreement.

Finally, we all know to file income tax return we need PAN Card.

Apply your PAN Card online at the comfort of your home or office.

PAN is an important document in India. While only taxpayers need to have this document in their possession, a lot of people need PAN if they do not have it. Now almost everywhere for starting any financial investment you must have PAN. Also, if you are starting your employment/ job, your company is going to ask for PAN. People who do not have it with them wonder how to get it. There are many authorized agencies who can accept your PAN card application at their outlets/shops. There are also many agents in the market who facilitate PAN Card and are the most preferred way for common man to get their PAN card done. But many people pay a huge sum to agents as they are unaware of charges and where to apply.

However, no need to go to agent or authorized agency outlet. Now you can apply online from the comfort of your house or office or any other place using internet. I am not talking here about e-PAN but Physical PAN which we popularly call PAN Card.

How to apply PAN Card online ?

  • You can apply either via UTITSL or NSDL. These two are authorized companies for issuance of PAN on behalf of income tax authorities. It does not matter through which of these two companies you are applying PAN, so do not think just go ahead and apply to get your PAN.
  • Select Apply for New PAN Card (Form 49A)
  • Select Digital Mode If you have Aadhaar linked mobile number and digital e-signature. Fill the Digital form and select to verify using digital signature. Follow the steps for filling details, upload documents & validate using Aadhaar/ digital e-signature. Post completion of application you need to pay the requisite fees and then submit your application. You will get an acknowledgement number by which you can track the status of issuance of your PAN card.
  • Select Physical Mode if you do not have Aadhaar linked mobile/ do not have Aadhaar / cannot verify using digital signature. Fill the online application form, upload the documents, make payment and submit your application. Here, after submitting your application you have to take print and send the physical documents via courier/post to the UTITSL or NSDL office. The address will be shown on screen while submitting your application. Once documents are received they will process and issue/send your PAN card. You can track status online using your application number.

What are charges for new PAN card ? Note that PAN card for minors cannot be applied online using the steps discussed here. For applying PAN Card, you will be charged Rs. 93/- (plus taxes) if you want to receive it within India and if your address is out of India you have to pay Rs. 864/- (plus taxes). You will need proof of date of birth and a valid address proof document for applying PAN Card, either residential proof or proof of office address.

What is instant e-PAN ? Generate your PAN instantly.

We know PAN stands for Permanent Account Number which is issued by income tax department to all individuals as their identity for tax filing. PAN is a 10-digit alphanumeric unique code for each individual which is valid for your lifetime. Anyone whose income falls in taxable bracket must have a PAN to file tax returns. In fact, even your income is not taxable or even you do not need to file tax returns, then also you need PAN for various reasons. Now a days PAN is essential to be quoted almost everywhere when you want to invest or save money.

However, vast population in India do not have PAN card. Most people who wish to get a PAN card feel that getting a PAN card is the most difficult job and it needs a lot of documents plus time. That’s not true, there are many authorized agencies across who will help you in getting a PAN card. But you need 7-10 days time for the physical PAN card to be received at your address.

For those who need it urgently, there is an option of instant e-PAN (electronic PAN). This can be generated within 10 minutes and is available virtually as a document. You can cite the e-PAN for all the proposes where physical PAN card is required. There is no difference in physical PAN card and e-PAN as far as their functions. Income tax department facilitates this e-PAN generation at their website https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/instant-e-pan. E-PAN is issued to those who have Aadhaar and can receive Aadhaar OTP on their Aadhaar linked mobile.

E-PAN looks like the Physical PAN and has all same details as of Physical PAN except your signature. It takes your details that are available on your Aadhaar. It will have your Aadhaar photo, Aadhaar date of birth, Aadhaad address, Aadhaar linked mobile number and father’s name that is mentioned on your Aadhaar. Your signature on e-PAN is not available as Aadhaar does not have your signature with them. There will be a QR code on the e-PAN which contains all your data and by scanning this anyone can verify the genuineness of your e-PAN.

Who can apply e-PAN ? All Indian citizens can apply for this who has Aadhaar. NRIs are not eligible to apply for e-PAN. Minors are also not issued e-PAN.

If you already have PAN, you are not allowed to apply for e-PAN. In case you have lost your PAN and wants to apply e-PAN, do not do that. Instead apply for re-issuance of new PAN card with existing PAN.

How to generate e-PAN? Visit https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/instant-e-pan. Click on Generate new e-PAN, enter Aadhaar and check on the declaration. You will receive Aadhaar OTP, enter OTP and authenticate to generate e-PAN instantly. Post e-PAN generation you can download the PDF copy and the authority will also send you the softcopy on your email.

On the same page https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/pre-login/instant-e-pan, there is link Check Status/ Download PAN from where you can check your e-PAN status and download it post e-PAN generation.

Remember you have to save the soft copy of e-PAN as there will be no physical PAN card send to you. Your e-PAN is password protected and the file will open when you type your date of birth as the password in DDMMYYYY format. You can submit the print copy of the e-PAN wherever you need to produce PAN.

In case you want a physical PAN card, you have to visit the authorised PAN card issuing centre, submit your signature proof and pay requisite fee to receive a physical PAN card with the same PAN number that is already there in your e-PAN.

Finally, one key aspect, e-PAN is issued to all free of cost without any charges.
